There’s More Than One Type Of Foam? Which One Do I Need?

The two most common types of foam insulation are closed cell and open cell. Continue reading to find out more about both.

Enjoy lower heating and cooling bills. Closed cell spray foam (specifically Natural-Therm 2.0) provides you with an airtight building envelope. This results in a more efficient system.

Closed cell foam is a vapor barrier stopping moisture and keeping your building dry. With a high R-value per inch and approximately 90 percent heat flow reduction when applied at 2 inches depth, 97 percent at 3 inches, it doesn’t take much to get maximal performance. This makes it perfect for cathedral ceilings, 2×4 walls and other situations with limited space.

Not only does it insulate and stop moisture, closed cell foam is tough. It increases building strength and adds structural integrity. This incredible “bracing” effect ties the whole building envelope together and strengthens it against strong winds. This along with its vapor barrier qualities give it a FEMA class 5 flood resistance.

With its relatively smooth surface, in some applications, people may choose to leave it uncovered, or paint directly on it with their color of preference.

Install a high-performance building insulation system for an effective cost with open cell foam.

Self-adhering seamlessly, it provides energy efficiency and air infiltration control.

Enjoy a quieter building with the great sound dampening properties of open cell foam. Keep upstairs and downstairs separate with open cell foam in between floor systems.

Typically installed with a depth of four inches or more in walls and even thicker on roofs.
